Social Work s Fundamental Mission - 1048 Words

Social workers can be found in prisons, hospitals, nursing homes, homeless shelters, or schools. A social worker may hold a position at a local government agency or in a skilled nursing unit. Social workers advocate for such communities as the LGBT or minorities. They seek and deliver homes, food, and clothing. They provide counseling and guidance to so many. A social worker can be found in many diverse locations and perform even more various types of duties but they all have the same goal in mind. The social work profession has a mission and this mission along with values, provide a guidance for the workers in this profession. To be simply stated; social work is here to improve quality of life. They are here to make a difference. â€Å"Social work’s fundamental mission is directly serving people in need and at the same time making social institutions more responsive to people† (Morales, Scott, Sheafor). A clear public understanding of the social workers’ missi on can be difficult to develop within its broad range of fields. To give a better understanding, the mission can be broken down into three primary purposes; Caring, counseling, and changing. When certain conditions in life cannot be fixed, the vulnerable are left to face such problems. The victims of such conditions deserve more than just humane care, but rather high-quality care.
